Day 40: Lima, Montana

July 24th, 2024

Mile Marker: 846.6

Miles Hiked: 7

We woke up early this morning to make sure we didn’t miss the 9:20 AM shuttle into Lima, Montana.

We started getting ready around 5:30 and hiking a little after 6 AM, we had yet another beautiful sunrise. What a joy it is to wake up with a view every morning, to watch the world come alive.

Our hike this morning consisted of a flat, mostly downhill gravel road to an underpass under I-15. To make it even better, we only had roughly 7 miles to complete.

It felt like a dream. Smooth walking and Captain joined us so we were able to chat and get to know each other for the whole duration.

Captain has done some major traveling since hiking the PCT, I was thoroughly impressed and enjoyed hearing about the places he really liked.

We watched the sun rise and within a couple hours arrived at the underpass around 8:45 AM. Perfect, plenty of time to spare.

Eventually a man arrived in a pickup truck and we rode back to Lima, Montana. We had views of all the mountains we have been walking around and over, with no idea a high desert existed here in this part of the US.

We arrived in Lima that has a population of 212, double our last town but a similar vibe. One school for all ages, 2 restaurants, and a gas station/kind of grocery store.

We first went and ate breakfast and I was thoroughly happy with the portions. 😁 So hungry!

I also ordered a cinnamon roll and this was probably a 6 out of 10. Holding the Augusta roll at a solid 10/10 and my favorite still.

We then crossed the street and got a room at the motel and received our packages. We decided to send a resupply here since there is not many food options and got some new gear. We got a good kick out of our label as my sister and brother in law labeled it “Bunch Supply Co.” We are forever grateful for them and being able to send our boxes out while we are out here. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

The motel is rather old but we mostly care for the shower and laundry more than anything so it’ll be just fine. It’s got character?

We then spent majority of the day inside our motel room staying cool and resting our bodies.

Eventually more hikers showed up such as Akela and Karma and all of us struggled hard with the biting flies. To show the extent of the bites… here is a picture of my legs. Which all of us look like this. It’s appalling. 🫣

All of us needed the mental break of town.

Around 7:30 us four decided to grab dinner at one of the restaurants and when we walked in we noticed a sign saying on Wednesday they only serve drinks and no food. We then walked to the other restaurant and it was closed.

Sigh. These small towns are hard.

Thankfully, the gas station was still open and we got some microwave food and had dinner in our hotel room. Making do with what we have. The CDT will never be what you expect.

We enjoyed our time and then had a FaceTime with Tia and Grady afterwards. Hopefully, yall guessed by now they would be coming out eventually!

I’m super excited to spend time with them and get to have other people to hike and camp with for a good portion of time.

For now, I’m hoping the people in the next room turn off their TV so I can go to sleep, but it’s been on all day so I doubt it will. 😂

Night Night.
