Day 41: Impromptu Zero

July 25th, 2024

Mile Marker: 846.6

Miles Hiked: 0

I woke up this morning feel groggy and like I could stay in bed all day. Sleep wasn’t the best in the motel (no AC) but we stirred around and went to breakfast with Akela and Karma around 8:30.

Akela and Karma decided to take a zero here and while eating breakfast, as per usual, Whatever and Aster showed up. Journey and I originally planned to get out today but I hated the thought of heading out again while everyone was a day behind us.

Most of our days hiking have been spent without seeing anyone and we know we would enjoy trail company, similar to what you would find on the other trails.

As we walked back to the hotel to pack, we decided our fate would be left to the motel owners and if they had any rooms available.

Lucky for us, they had one room left!

We decided we would relax for the day and head out tomorrow with around 8 people, leaving at different times.

We headed to the post office to send home Journey’s old pot since he got a new one and I noticed this hanging on the wall. I was curious to see a pin in what I think is Wichita, KS. I’m not sure if it’s a hiker ahead or a biker stopping through, but go Kansas!

Here are some pictures of the town of Lima, Montana. Not much but two streets really.

We then stopped by Jan’z Java and got some sandwiches and I ordered this delicious mocha frappe. Way better than I expected.

We then spent the rest of the day hanging out in our motel room planning out the next couple of weeks. Since there is a big alternate coming up, we needed to decide which we wanted to take, then plan out Yellowstone and when we would meet with Tia and Grady.

As per usual, this trail takes a lot more planning than the others.

Once we got that squared away we both worked on a few other things and enjoyed being able to have spare time to get things done and just fully relax our bodies.

Around 7:30 we went to dinner with Akela, Karma, Whatever, Aster, Stove, and Columbus. This time, The Peat Bar and Steakhouse was open and we were all thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious!

Journey and I ordered salad, pizza, and grilled veggies. All of it was so tasty and so worth it. We were thankful for yummy filling food.

We then went and got ice cream from the gas station and have happy bellies.

It was so nice to hang around a group of people and socialize. I don’t particularly consider myself an extrovert although a lot of my family would, but it’s nice to be around people who are going through the same things we are, experiencing the highs and lows all the same but in our own ways.

I’m so looking forward to heading out with this group of people and seeing how the trail feels.
