Day 61: Lander, Wyoming

August 14th, 2024

Mile Marker: 1260.8

Miles Hiked: 17

Journey and I slept in this morning knowing that we only had a couple town chores to do and the rest of the day was wide open. I was so needing this zero day.

Once we got around we headed next door to a restaurant called Oxbow for breakfast. I ordered pancakes, eggs, hash browns, and a cinnamon roll. Finally! It feels like it’s been a while since I have been able to find one!

I give the cinnamon roll a 7 out of 10 stars. The icing was a bit much but the roll itself was quite delicious. I would probably place this at third with Augusta still in first. I don’t think it will be beat unless I find another made from scratch!

Also, yes, I ate almost all of this food. 😅

We then went to Wild Iris Mountain Sports store to get Journey a new shirt and check out if they had a patch kit for our sleeping pads. Some how Journey’s got a hole when we were drying all our gear out a couple days ago.

When we got back to the hotel, we patched it up then headed to the nearby Family Dollar to grab a couple resupply things.

Before we knew it, it was almost noon. Almost any zero days are spent running around it seems.

We spent the afternoon grabbing lunch at the Gannet Grill ordering salad and pizza. This restaurant had some pretty good food. (Cowboy cafe is still our favorite though. 🤣)

We then spent the next few hours lounging around and finishing some blogs. I could have spent all day in bed! My body just feels fatigued.

We then both called family members. I chatted with my parents which is always so nice. I feel uplifted after every phone call. 🥰

Then we went to dinner again at the Gannet Grill, ordering a different pizza and salad this time. We were joined by Stove, Columbus, and Aster. It is always a good time getting dinner with the other hikers we have been around. Aster is having some shin pain after a fall so her and Whatever will be a couple days behind after tomorrow. We are hopeful we will see them again later down the trail.

We then got some ice cream for the short walk to the hotel.

It was a successful zero day. I’ve downloaded some new books and podcasts for the Basin and feel ready for this next section!

Sleep time.
