Day 16: Land Yacht to Lincoln, Montana

June 30th, 2024

Mile Marker: 282

Miles Hiked: 8

We woke up this morning and slowly started moving around. Journey and I love having our slow mornings with breakfast and coffee. We were shocked when by the time we left our campsite, everyone else had already left.

Before leaving I spotted these intriguing spikey plants.

We headed out knowing we were going to have one large steep climb followed by two smaller ones. The trail really just goes straight up and I had to dig deep to get the mindset right to start with this climb.

We were up on the ridges again and had wonderful views today. I was in good spirits since I knew today was a town day and we only had 8 miles to get there.

We also came across a yurt that hikers can stay in if needed. We had thought about trying to make it there the previous night but that would have been way too many miles.

Once I went in I was okay to not being able to stay there due to ants but regardless, it’s an awesome spot if weather is poor!

We arrived down at Roger’s Pass and saw Mosey, another hiker, and Robot with a hitch.

They didn’t have much room so us 3 let the others go on and we stood with our thumbs out.

We ended up getting an RV to pull over, the older couple was a bit hesitant at first but once we got in and started chatting they warmed up immediately. My first RV hitch, score!

It was an older retired couple who was out on a 6 week adventure going around seeing national parks and any sights they wanted. They mentioned being from San Diego and sailing all over but that since they are older now they have decided to switch to their “Land Yacht” and get this RV.

They were very sweet and we were so thankful.

We got to town and since our motel room wasn’t ready yet we went to eat at a restaurant called Scapegoat and found all the other hikers there.

It was nice chatting away and eating a yummy chicken sandwich. Look how ginormous the sandwich was! 😂 Sad to say I couldn’t finish it.

We then came back to the motel to do our town chores and relax.

We headed back out around 7 for dinner with more hikers and enjoyed talking about the wonderful and difficult parts of trail.

It was a busy day but a good one.

Google told me that cool yellow spikey plant is “Lanceleaf Stonecrop – Sedum lanceolatum“! ❤
